A few years ago, after two decades of planning and running guided mountain bike trips in the Swiss Alps we decided to take the lastest eMTB’s and see what they were capable of. We worked with our local guides based in Zermatt, Verbier, Aosta and Chamonix and devised a route that was ambitious, even on these power-assisted beasts with their powerful batteries and state-of-the-art technology. We’d start near Zermatt in the Val D’Anniviers and follow the winter Haute Route ski traverse towards Verbier and the Val de Bagnes across the Valais region that we know well. Then, we’d veer south, over the Fenetre du Durand and into the Aosta Valley for a few days to the base of Mont Blanc in Courmayeur. Then, dip into France via the Col de Seigne, wrap around the biggest massif in Europe and finally roll down to spectacular Chamonix.

The result? 300 km (186 miles) | 9662 meters climbing (31,700 ft.) | 12,110 meters descending (40,000 ft.). The ultimate Alps eMTB traverse? We think so.

We’re offing this tour de mont blanc emtb trip to experienced and adventurous riders over six big days of point-to-point riding. And this summer we have a confirmed departure with a few spots still available: August 19-26, 2023. Are you ready for a trip of a lifetime this summer?

This trail at 2985m. Just around the corner it drops for a solid hour and a half of straight descent on singletrack. Pas mal!

Creamy light riding along an ancient irrigation channel near Verbier. Called a bisse, these were built by hand to take water from the high mountains to villages below.

Piecing together the route required some careful planning. Battery life, technical climbs, long descents and the best lunch stops; important considerations.

An amazing section of trail somewhere high above the Aosta Valley. Another big pass and killer descent after a night of delicious cuisine and fine wine.

A good view of part of yesterday’s ride: the col on the horizon at around 11:00, hidden beyond it, the Swiss / Italian border. This photo, enjoying the amazing Aosta Valley.

Oh, magnifique Chamonix…
